Electrochemical Characterization of Egyptian Blue Pigment in Wall Paintings Using the Voltammetry of Microparticles Methodology

The solid state voltammetric response of Egypt blue, Han blue and ploss blue pigments upon attachment to graphite electrodes in contact with aqueous phosphate buffer at pH 7.0 is studied by voltammetry of microparticles and scanning electrochemical microscopy. Such voltammetric responses, combined with those for synthetic specimens consisting of binary mixtures of the pigment and SiO2 or CaCO3 as well as ternary ones of CaCO3 and SiO2 mixtures allow for the identification of the pigment and the support in samples from wall paintings using different electrochemical parameters, in particular upon performing the Tafel and modified Tafel analysis of voltammetric peaks. Study of a Novel Electrochemical Method for Copper Recovery from Waste Printed Circuit Boards

This study was carried out to recover copper from printed circuit boards of waste computers through an electrochemical process. To simplify the overall recovery process, large pieces of printed circuit boards were used instead of pulverized samples. In particular, these large pieces were directly used as an anode for copper electrorefining. For this purpose, electronic components and solder mask were initially removed from the boards. Height as a potential indicator of early life events predicting Parkinson's disease: a case-control study.

Aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between height in young adult age and Parkinson's disease (PD) risk. We included 266 persons affected by idiopathic PD. Patients were matched by age and sex to 266 controls by a random selection from the municipality of residence. We collected information about height preceding PD from official documents where these characteristics referred to young adult age (nearly 30 years). We compared height in cases and controls by calculating differences in mean distribution and by χ2 analyses. Stable Green Electroluminescence from an Iridium Tris-Heteroleptic Ionic Complex

An ionic tris-heteroleptic iridium complex gives green light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) with unprecedented performances for this part of the visible spectrum. The devices are very bright (>1000 cd m–2), efficient (∼3%), and stable (>55 h). The novel complex is prepared using a new and efficient synthetic procedure. We show that there is a mixed orbital formation originating from the two different orthometalating ligands resulting in photophysical properties that lie between those of its two bis-heteroleptic analogs. Therefore, tris-heteroleptic complexes provide new avenues for fine-tunning the emission properties and to bridge gaps between a series of bis-heteroleptic complexes.

Electrodeposition and characterization of Mo oxide nanostructures

Template electrodeposition has been used to grow uniform arrays of molybdenum oxide nanostructures in polycarbonate membrane. Several parameters have been investigated, like electrodeposition, time and solution pH. These parameters do not influence the nature of the deposit that always consists of mixed valence molybdenum oxides, whereas the nanostructure morphology changes with pH. In particular, at low pH (2.7), nanotubes are formed, whilst arrays of nanowires are obtained above pH 5.5. This change of morphology is likely due to H2 bubbles evolution during the electrochemical deposition, particularly occurring at low pH.
